Wednesday's national newspapers report that Roberto Martinez has ruled out entering the transfer market in an attempt to bring in cover for the injured Ross Barkley.

The Blues boss is quoted in the The Times and the Daily Express saying he does not need a direct replacement for the 20-year-old - though he hasn't ruled out strengthening his squad in other areas should the right players become available.

Martinez also discusses Barkley in the Liverpool Echo, saying the England international is mentally tough enough to recover from the knee problem he sustained in training last week and backs him to return a stronger player for the experience.

The same paper covers the news that 17-year-old midfielder Ryan Ledson has signed his professional contract with the Toffees, while they also carry photographs from Tuesday's signing session with Club-record signing Romelu Lukaku at the Everton Two store in Liverpool One.
