The Sunday Mirror and Sunday Express report that Barkley could face up to five months on the sidelines because of the setback.

Steven Naismith was on the scoresheet– and he has been selected as Everton’s man of the match in the Mail on Sunday’s write-up with a rating of 7.5 out of 10.

In the Liverpool Echo, James McCarthy’s performance has been highlighted, with the paper saying that the Republic of Ireland midfielder was ‘back firing on all cylinders’ after running on empty at the end of last season.

The Echo also say that’s that there is ‘work to be done' in defence after conceding two goals yesterday and 10 in the five pre-season fixtures.
